In Romania, a 30-year-old Ukrainian man was rescued after more than a week of wandering through the Maramureș Mountains. The man had not eaten for four days and was on the brink of death when he was discovered by Romanian rescuers.
According to the rescuers, the Ukrainian man was forced to take risks in the mountains to avoid persecution in his home country. Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, around 32,000 men have fled to Romania to avoid falling into the hands of the authorities.
Reasons for Fleeing
Many Ukrainians are fleeing their country, fearing persecution and repression. Some of them prefer to take risks in the mountains rather than returning to a country where they may be arrested or persecuted.
Romanian authorities are providing assistance to refugees, offering them food, shelter, and medical care. However, many Ukrainians remain in danger, and their fate remains uncertain.
